A homegrown bottle of wine or a cosy country getaway are high on plenty of people’s Valentine’s Day lists, but here is the chance to offer up both on a grand scale.
Across Australia there are a number of vineyards ripe for the picking, giving entrepreneurial buyers and avid drinkers the opportunity to create their signature plonk right on their own doorstop.
A sprawling estate with a designer home and more than 9000 vines is currently on the market just outside of Canberra in the burgeoning food and wine wonderland of Murrumbateman.
Christopher Dixon of McGrath Dickson said in 15 years selling real estate in and around Canberra, he has rarely had an offering like this one.

“It really is hard to compare, so we haven’t got a price guide as such,” he said of the listing which is open for expressions of interest until March 6.
Mr Dixon said the unique property could sell for as much as $2 million.
“It’s being sold as a going concern so it could equally suit someone who likes the look and notion of running a vineyard, or if it’s a buyer who doesn’t know how to make wine then that could also work because we’ve had interest from nearby vineyards to lease the land,” he said, adding that a buyer could earn around $20,000 to $25,000 a year from leasing alone.
The established vines date back to 1998 and approximately 40 tonnes of wine is produced in a year. All the necessary equipment is included in the sale and there is scope to open a cellar door business if desired.
“Someone could really take on as much or as little as they’d like, it’s quite a versatile property,” he said.
