A huge jump in the number of interstate visitors to Perth.
Big events, like Manchester United blockbusters and AFL games are helping to drive a big uptick in new trips to Western Australia from other parts of the country.
Thanks to the new Optus Stadium and innovative marketing campaigns, interstate tourism to Western Australia is up 16%, shows new figures released today.
10.2 million visitors came to Western Australia in the last year, up 10 per cent, and $7.8 billion was spent, up 24 per cent. (source)
Tourism Council WA Chief Executive Evan Hall sees that the growth in interstate tourism is driven by ‘leisure visitors’ attracted to the state by the Western Australian Government’s investment in marketing and events as well as Perth’s new Optus Stadium.
Hall stated “Perth previously had a poor reputation as an expensive destination. Now interstate visitors have been lured back by must-see matches and events at the stadium, particularly the AFL.
“East coast spectators are having a great time in WA and are telling friends back home that Perth is a new city and worth a visit.”
Huge events at Optus Stadium in the past year have helped massively. The West Coast Eagles finals campaign in 2018, blockbuster cricket and AFL games in 2019, as well as the English Football giants Manchester United, Chelsea and Leeds United all helped. Massive concerts, rugby league and other events at Optus Stadium helped drive new visitors to WA.
