The pressure is on to nail ‘newborn reveal chic’ after birth of Baby Sussex

Amanda Dishaw, co-founder of Meghan’s Mirror, has been documenting the royal’s style since her Suits days (and Kate before her, through her What Kate Would Do website).

Dishaw, who runs the site from her Vancouver base while her partner, Christine Ross, is in Washington DC, said we can expect something more laid back than Kate’s Jenny Packham trifecta following the births of princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte.

“I don’t think we will get a formal stepping out of the hospital type photo,” Dishaw told me. “The fashion coverage part of me hopes I am wrong.

“What we might get is a photo a couple of days after the baby is born … quite similar to the photos when George was born – with the dog, very casual dress, very flattering but still showing maternity style.”

Meghan’s Mirror has become one of the most reliable sources of information on the duchess’ wardrobe, thanks to the army of Hollywood stylists, editors and armchair sleuths who are poised to identify the outfits each time a photo appears.

Dishaw and Ross make money from advertising, as well as click-through commissions when readers browse or buy the outfits, so there’s a commercial imperative that they are both first and right to name Meghan’s outfits.

Sometimes, Dishaw admits, that involves staying awake through the night, such as when the royals are travelling. And there are still about 10-15 outfits, all documented on the site, that have left the team completely stumped.

“We don’t see confirmation from brands such as Givenchy [when Meghan wears them] – that would be our guess [in some cases].”

So post baby, how does Dishaw see Meghan’s style changing?

“I don’t know her style will change. She is very comfortable in who she is. If we saw on her what she wore before she was married, it is very similar to what we see now, except at formal engagements.

“I am partial to some of her street style looks – when she’s not on the royal schedule – those are most achievable for women.”

Dishaw said that as a fan site, it’s a “touchy subject” when Meghan is the subject of negative press. But they try to stick to the fashion and stay away from engaging with tabloid headlines.

“It’s interesting to see the amount of attention that comes to these kinds of stories and we have had to moderate comments on the blog more closely than on What Would Kate Do,” she says. “We try to stick to only the fashion but even the fashion can be incredibly divisive.”

All eyes will be on London sometime in late April. My money’s on the 23rd.
