Novak Djokovic did not receive a whole heap of sympathy from the sports world as he announced he had tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
The Serbian world No. 1, who became the fourth player from his own event to contract the virus, had largely ignored social distancing rules throughout the Adria Tour exhibition.
Djokovic’s result followed Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric, and Viktor Troicki’s positive tests after the players spent time in Serbia and Croatia playing tennis and partying.
Djoker slammed for partying
Australian Nick Kyrgios, who has not been shy in his disapproval of Djokovic’s Adria Tour antics, reacted to the news late Tuesday night.
“Prayers up to all the players that have contracted Covid – 19,” he tweeted. “Don’t @ me for anything I’ve done that has been ‘irresponsible’ or classified as ‘stupidity’ – this takes the cake.”

Kyrgios slams Djoker’s comp
Kyrgios had taken to Twitter on Monday night after the first three positive tests to remind fellow professionals, in his own blunt way, that the COVID-19 pandemic that has shut down tennis is not to be taken lightly.
“Boneheaded decision to go ahead with the ‘exhibition’,” he posted. “Speedy recovery fellas, but that’s what happens when you disregard all protocols. This IS NOT A JOKE.”
Kyrgios wasn’t the only one who felt something like this was coming.
No surprise considering all the close contact with the player group but Djokovic and his wife Jelena have now tested positive for the coronavirus. Djokovic’s Adria Tour came from a good place but good ideas need the right plan & the plan was faulty & out of tune with the times https://t.co/rryUP2HDTm

My question is how many people who worked at this tournament/nightclub are now fighting Covid-19 because of the selfish stupidity of Djokovic. Absolutely brutal. https://t.co/BfUh6SeRw7

Djokovic positive. If you listed 5 things to avoid when bringing sport back, I reckon they did them all, then some! With sensible behaviour, risks can be mitigated to extremely low, acceptable levels. I’d call it a fine line, but this went so far beyond it, it’s hard to assess!
