Pair plead guilty over bar brawl sparked by teddy jibes

A series of jibes over a plush teddy bear sparked a violent brawl at a Wollongong hotel that left a man in hospital.

Michael Grose and a friend arrived at the Corrimal Hotel at 8.15pm on February 11 last year and had just ordered their first drink at the back bar when they were approached by three men, two of whom were later identified as 20-year-old Sam Gallo from Towradgi, and Kyle Philip, also 20, from Mount Keira.

The trio noticed Grose had hold of a plush teddy bear – a present for a friend – and began hassling him, court documents revealed.

Gallo and Philip touched and poked the bear despite Mr Grose repeatedly asking them to stop.

One eventually said, “What’s your teddy bear’s name then?”, to which Mr Grose’s friend replied, “Yeah, it’s name is, ‘F— all of you’,” igniting an all-in brawl.
