Nerada tea plantation, Australia’s biggest, back in production after big dry

Millions of tea plants harvested on the Atherton Tablelands end up on supermarket shelves across the country.

But frost and a prolonged dry period have made for a tough year at Australia’s biggest tea plantation.

After production was put on hold for six months, Nerada is back in action and staff say this year’s yields have been above average.

Located near Malanda, south-west of Cairns, the plantation is open to visitors.

Guests can see the entire process, from the crop, to the factory, to the cup.
