Man who strangled wife ‘felt lifeless’ in lead up to killing: court told

A depressed Melbourne man told his wife of 50 years he “felt lifeless” days before he strangled her with an extension cord, prosecutors say.

Anastasios Karatzas, 70, is standing trial in Victoria’s Supreme Court for the murder of Georgia Karatzas, 68, at the couple’s Mount Waverley home on November 20, 2017.

Prosecutor Mark Rochford, QC, on Thursday said Karatzas told his wife, “I’m not well, I feel lifeless and I don’t want to do anything” in the days before he strangled her with an extension cord.

Anastasios Karatzas, arriving at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, has been charged with murdering his 68-year-old wife, Georgia.
