Home team left high and dry while visitors kick back

Fresh from notching a third straight Big Bash win, the Perth Scorchers have their backs to the wall to continue the streak after their flight home was cancelled due to heavy haze in Melbourne.

Adam Voges’ men defeated the Hobart Hurricanes on Monday night and then boarded a flight to Perth via Melbourne but were told on arrival at Tullamarine Airport the second leg home had been cancelled due to heavy smoke in the air.

The Scorchers are now not due to arrive in Perth until 6pm on Tuesday, just 24 hours before they play the Melbourne Stars at Optus Stadium.

The bitter irony of the situation is their opponents are already safe and sound in Perth, having arrived on Monday afternoon.

The Scorchers have been running hot of late as they eye a return to the BBL finals after missing them last year for the first time.
