Ex-Facebook Australia and New Zealand boss sells in Castlecrag

Former Facebook Australia chief Paul Borrud has sold his family home in Castlecrag, in a super hush hush deal.

CoreLogic revealed the luxury waterfront property, in blue ribbon Edinburgh Rd, sold on June 17 after 104 days.

A sale price has not yet been disclosed, however industry sources report the property’s last price guide was about $8.5 million.

David Forrester, of Belle Property Northbridge, was marketing the property. It is also listed on his website as sold.

He would not give any comment to the North Shore Times this week about the sale or the property.

The sale closes an eight year-chapter for Mr Borrud, who bought the property with his wife Robin in 2011 for $6.4 million.

The five-level, five-bedroom trophy home is on a 1176sqm block and has massive views over Fig Tree Cove and Sugarloaf Bay.

Features of the architecturally-designed residence includes incredible features such as a wine tasting room and temperature-controlled cellar, as well as a separate media room, self-contained guest accommodation/office, and a heated pool.

The home is high-tech, with features including zoned climate control, C-bus management system that controls the front gate and embedded audio.

The sale came only a few weeks after retired Sydney surgeon Dr Frank Fisher and his wife Penelope sold their family home at 273 Edinburgh Rd, Castlecrag, for $5.3 million. They had owned the rare waterfront property for more than 50 years.

Mr Borrud played a major role in setting up Facebook’s first office in Australia. He relocated from the company’s San Francisco office and headed up the Australian and New Zealand operations between 2009 and 2012.

At the time of his resignation, Facebook said he was leaving to “spend more time with his family and pursue personal interests.”

CoreLogic reports Mr Borrud also owns a 40ha farm in the Southern Highlands that was purchased in 2012 for $2 million.
