Australian Oaks headlines feature supports on Day 2 of The Championships

A field of 15 three-year-old fillies’ will start in the $1 million Group I Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The fields were announced and barrier draws conducted earlier in the day for the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Sydney Cup. The other four The Championships events were released at 10am.

The Australian Oaks field shapes as one of the races of the carnival with the likes of Group I winners Verry Elleegant, Aristia as well as exciting stayers Frankely Awesome, Scarlet Dream and surprise Adrian Knox Stakes winner, Aliferous.

The other Group I contest on the card is the $1 million Coolmore Legacy (1600m) and Godolphin’s star mare Alizee will back-up after failing last week in the Doncaster Mile.

Alizee takes on 18 rivals including Group I Surround Stakes winner Nakeeta Jane and other Group I winners Prompt Response, Daysee Doom, Dixie Blossoms, Unforgotten, Kiwi mare Consensus, Amphitrite and Seabrook.

The other two The Championships races are the $1 million Group II Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) where Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi headlines a field of 11 and the $1 million Group II Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) where there’s a field of 14 runners.

The Randwick track was rated a soft (6) on Tuesday. The rail will be in the three-metre position on Saturday.
