The ultimate dream homes looking for love in 2019


The 2018 property market may be done and dusted, but it left some spectacular homes hanging for a buyer.

Here are some of the elaborate mansions that hit the market last year but didn’t manage a sale — offering an opportunity for a deep-pocketed purchaser to swoop in the new year.

‘AVON COURT’, 18-20 SHAKESPEARE GROVE, HAWTHORN

Listed: off-market in May with a $45-$50 million price guide, and later publicly in November with a reduced $40-$45 million guide.

Highlights: Nine bedrooms, seven kitchens, seven bathrooms (one with an image of Richmond legend Jack Dyer tiled into it), two pools, a 3m outdoor TV, a Victorian ballroom, 4000-plus bottle wine cellar, 18-seat home cinema, library, billiards room and bar, gym, sauna, 10-car garage … and the list goes on, making it easy to see why the home is being marketed as “one of Melbourne’s finest mansion estate properties”. It sprawls over four levels and 4645sq m of land.

3880 FRANKSTON-FLINDERS RD, SHOREHAM

Listed: in November 2017 with a $13.75-$15 million price guide, now asking $16 million.

Highlights: The spectacular home of V8 Supercar racing identity Walter “Rusty” French sprawls over 46ha comprising a tennis court, pool, self-contained housekeeper’s quarters, horse facilities including a machine shed and stable, and a 5ha vineyard. The house itself has seven bedrooms and seven living spaces.

Listed: in April with $9 million-plus price guide, now asking $8-$8.8 million (also previously listed in 2017, with no sale).

Highlights: The modern mansion has been crowned the king of the Yarra Valley for its striking facade, saltwater infinity edge pool, tennis court, home theatre, wellness wing with a steam room, main bedroom that spans across the whole first floor, wine cellar, gym, 360-degree views, and other elite features. Its previous $5.69 million sale in 2015 broke Chirnside Park’s residential sale record.

Listed: in June with a $3.2-$3.5 million price guide, now asking $2.815-$2.98 million.

Highlights: Parkmore’s grandeur, uniqueness on the Mornington Peninsula and rich history has previously seen it break Rosebud’s residential price record — and it could do so again by surpassing the current $2.85 million benchmark. The mansion was built in 1891 by English architect Albert Holloway, making it one of the area’s oldest residences, and has since been an early-1900s holiday camp and 1950s caravan park as well as a home. It offers six bedrooms, three bathrooms, multiple living rooms, a pool, showpiece gardens, and period features including open fireplaces, chandeliers and Baltic pine flooring.

Listed: in June with an $18 million asking price that remains in place.

Highlights: This sky mansion atop the atop the beachfront HM@S building hit the market in 2018 in its fourth attempt to sell since 2013, offering two levels of luxury living. Vendor Elias Jreissati, the founder and chairman of Bensons Property Group, fitted out the sleek pad with a 100-person rooftop terrace, a pool, 1800-bottle cellar, five bedrooms and five bathrooms. It also offers uninterrupted 360-degree Port Phillip Bay views and, if it finally achieves its eight-figure asking price, the residence will smash Port Melbourne’s price record.

Listed: in September with a $27-$29.5 million asking price that remains in place.

A pool, tennis court, 10-car basement garage, home cinema, billiards room and bar, study and Carrara marble kitchen with an Aga stove are also part of the luxury package.
